History
John and Norma Schien opened Schien Equipment
Company in Carlinville, Illinois on April 17th, 1948. They began
by doing repairs for farmers and building small tanks for water
hauling. They also designed a truck body that could be used to
haul cans of milk from the local dairy farms to the dairy. Business
was good and in 1950 they doubled the size of their building and
started doing chassis modifications in addition to manufacturing.
The business continued to grow and in 1954 they purchased 6 acres
and built new buildings.
In the late-1950’s Schien Equipment expanded their product
line. They began building van, platform, service, and grain
bodies. They also repaired and rebuilt wrecked trailers. In
the early 1960’s they expanded again and started designing
and building their own line of steel and aluminum end-dump trailers.
Eventually, they were selling their products throughout the
Mid-West.
In 1999, the Schien’s met with representative of Bibeau
Enterprises from St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, Canada, the premier
manufacturer of dump bodies in North America. Bibeau Enterprises,
a family owned company, has been building dump bodies and trailer
tubs for more than 40 years. In May, 2000, Bibeau Enterprises
purchased the Schien Equipment Company.
Schien Equipment, Inc. is currently located on approximately
20 acres at 14933 Moore Cemetery Road in Carlinville, Illinois.
